A upgrade from A2 costs 2026
Cost statistics for upgrading from A2 to A: €765 cost benchmark and data from 11,041 driving schools.
Fewer mandatory hours, lower costs
After at least two years with A2, the unrestricted class A is within reach – and the upgrade is the cheapest way onto any motorcycle without a power limit. Neither special drives nor the theory exam are needed: you only require practice lessons (typically around 5) and the practical exam at TÜV or DEKRA.
A A (from A2) license costs around €765 on average nationwide. A single practice lesson (45 min) runs about €75. These figures are based on approx. 11k driving schools across approx. 1.4k cities (updated August 25, 2026). Lesson prices range between €61 - €93. A typical cost breakdown includes base fee €180, lesson €75, theory exam €75, practical exam €200 – plus individual practice hours on top. Location makes a difference too: costs range from €707 in Berlin to €27,523,096 in Nürnberg.
Compare upgrade prices specifically against full class A offers. A good upgrade package should be well below a full course, since the entire theory and special-drive component is dropped.
